Bo was a ‘one-in-a-million” kind of young man. He had a refreshing spirit, and an attitude that suggested we should "smile more, stress less!"
He enjoyed lacrosse, Xbox, skiing, baseball, music and four wheeling in his Jeep. He cherished time spent with friends, family, and his Jack Russel terrier, Tucker. He especially loved the holidays and his Mom's chocolate chip cookies. It was his close connection to family that helped him face his challenges.
A creative person who mastered making videos and mixing music, Bo lived with humor, style, and compassion. Bo was free from judging others, and he gave people his time to make sure they understood their worth. He came to work every day at his family's business with a big smile.
Over the years, Bo's challenges with mental illness episodes made it difficult to stay on task. He wrestled with social anxieties and the responsibilities of day-to-day life. Bo's illness was not only a challenge for him, but also for his family who dedicated their energy, time, love and resources to help him cope.
We are crusading for mental wellness by sharing Bo’s story and acknowledging others who struggle including their families. Through Bo's Effort we hope to break the stigma, bring awareness, and bridge the gap for families and loved ones.
We know Bo is continuing on his mission through Bo’s Effort. Together, we are making a difference in mental health.
Scholarships for Scholars is a non-profit corporation established to reward scholastic excellence in Anne Arundel County granting scholarships to qualified graduating high school students. Scholarships for Scholars is unique as the organization receives its operating funds from escheat funds- monies left in an estate in Anne Arundel County without any heirs - along with individual, family, organization and corporate donations. In 1984, Scholarships for Scholars was formed, managed by a Board of Trustees who are leading members of the local community.
Through Scholarships for Scholars, Bo’s Effort awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors who have personal experience with mental illness or have chosen to go into the mental health field in some capacity upon graduation. The Bo’s Effort Scholarship Committee has the daunting task of reviewing several heart-felt essays from well-deserving, college-bound students and from those, selecting 5 to receive scholarships from Bo’s Effort. Scholarship recipients may use proceeds to help pay tuition, fees, books, technical equipment and room/board at the high education institution of their choice.
